Ten games of note from this past weekend

North Crowley Panthers 42, Waxahachie Indians 17

Number 3 takes down Number 1.

The Panthers established control early, building a 21-0 lead before Waxahachie finally reached the end zone late in the first half. North Crowley’s ground game proved too much for the Indians to handle.

Senior running back Kiante Ingram carried 21 times for 166 yards and two touchdowns, while G’Yrell Smith added 121 rushing yards and three touchdowns. North Crowley finished with more than 300 rushing yards, according to game coverage.

The victory moved North Crowley to 6-0 and handed Waxahachie its first loss of the season.

Galena Park North Shore Mustangs 28, Summer Creek Bulldogs 27

North Shore trailed 21-7 in the third quarter before senior quarterback Ja’Voris Taylor threw two critical touchdown passes and the Mustangs’ offensive line opened the door for the go-ahead score.

Kaden Brandley punched in a five-yard touchdown run with 1:20 remaining. Amari Louisville added the two-point conversion to put North Shore ahead 28-21.

Summer Creek answered with a touchdown, but the extra point was blocked. North Shore then recovered the ensuing onside kick to preserve the victory.

Will No.2 North Shore move up to No.1? Or will No. 3 North Crowley leap-frog them?

Cypress Lakes Spartans 21, Cypress Falls Golden Eagles 18

Cypress Falls entered the game ranked No. 15 in Class 6A and unbeaten at 5-0. Cypress Lakes, meanwhile, came in with a 3-2 record and considerably less statewide recognition.

The Spartans found a way to win the close one, handing the Golden Eagles their first defeat of the season and improving to 4-2.

Cedar Park Timberwolves 37, Hutto Hippos 35

The Timberwolves scored the go-ahead touchdown with 48 seconds remaining, completing a comeback against a Hutto team that entered the matchup with a 5-1 record.

Hutto had one final opportunity to reclaim the lead, but Cedar Park’s defense recorded a sack on the last possession to seal the victory.

Cedar Park improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in District 24-6A. Hutto fell to 5-2 and suffered its first district loss.

La Porte Bulldogs 51, Port Arthur Memorial Titans 27

La Porte delivered one of the weekend’s most significant upsets, defeating fourth-ranked Class 5A Division I Port Arthur Memorial.

The Titans entered the weekend unbeaten at 6-0 and ranked among the state’s elite 5A Division I programs. La Porte’s 51-point performance handed Memorial its first loss of the season.

The Bulldogs’ offense produced 426 rushing yards.

A&M Consolidated Tigers 49, Pflugerville Weiss Wolves 47

The Tigers escaped with a two-point victory over a Weiss team that entered the weekend ranked No. 8 in Class 5A Division I.

Quarterback Holt Goodwin accounted for seven total touchdowns, while receiver Mari Moore caught five passes for 128 yards and two scores.

Weiss nearly completed a late comeback. After cutting the deficit to two points, the Wolves attempted a two-point conversion to tie the game, but Consolidated stopped quarterback Jaxon Schaad short of the goal line.

Argyle Liberty Christian Warriors 55, Dallas Parish Episcopal Panthers 7

Private-school football supplied one of the weekend’s most startling results.

Sixth-ranked Liberty Christian overwhelmed fifth-ranked Parish Episcopal 55-7, producing a 48-point margin between two teams that entered the weekend among the state’s top private-school programs.

Odessa Permian Panthers 42, Midland Lee Rebels 10

Permian opened District 2-6A play with a convincing victory over Midland Lee.

Quarterback Kayden Vickers completed 21 of 24 passes for 339 yards and four total touchdowns. Receiver Aaron Navarrete caught six passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns, then added a fourth-quarter interception at the goal line.

The Panthers improved to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in district play. The result also marked Permian’s first blowout victory in the rivalry since 2017.

Gilmer 33, Pleasant Grove 27

Gilmer’s 33 points were its lowest output of the season to that point, but the Buckeyes did enough to protect home field. The result moved both teams to 5–1 overall, while Gilmer opened district play with a win.

Shelbyville 40, Joaquin 39

Shelbyville pulled off an extraordinary comeback Thursday night, erasing a 19-point deficit to beat Joaquin 40–39 in the District 12-2A Division I opener. The Dragons trailed 39–20 before scoring three touchdowns in the final 53 seconds, capped by a Hail Mary as time expired.

Here’s how the improbable finish unfolded:

  • 53 seconds remaining: Quarterback Gavin McDonald connected with Ronnie Williams III for a six-yard touchdown. Shelbyville added a two-point conversion, cutting Joaquin’s lead to 39–28.
  • The first recovery: Hunter Harvey recovered a pooched kickoff at the Joaquin five-yard line. McDonald immediately found Bryant Scarborough for another touchdown, making it 39–34. The conversion failed.
  • The second recovery: Shelbyville recovered an onside kick to regain possession.
  • Four seconds remaining: From midfield, McDonald launched a Hail Mary. Scarborough caught the ball near the three-yard line and powered into the end zone for the winning touchdown
