Bridgeland continued its strong start in District 23-6A on Friday night, using a productive passing attack and a dominant third quarter to pull away from George Ranch for a 49-8 victory.

The Bears improved to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in district play, while George Ranch fell to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the district.

Bridgeland quarterback Taylon Villanueva led the way through the air, completing 13 of 16 passes for 170 yards and four touchdown passes. Jackson Ewing was his primary target, catching six passes for 109 yards, including two touchdown receptions. Jackson Gruber added four catches for 53 yards and a touchdown, while Tyson Friedrich hauled in a two-yard scoring pass.

The Bears established control early, opening the scoring with a 30-yard touchdown connection from Villanueva to Ewing. Villanueva later found Friedrich for a two-yard score, giving Bridgeland a 14-0 advantage by the end of the first quarter.

Bridgeland continued to stretch its lead in the second quarter. Villanueva connected with Ewing on a 48-yard touchdown pass before finding Gruber for a seven-yard score. The Bears carried a 28-0 advantage into halftime, having built a substantial lead through their passing game.

George Ranch struggled to sustain offensive possessions against the Bridgeland defense. The Longhorns finished with 169 total yards, including 103 rushing yards and 66 passing yards. Several drives ended in punts or turnovers on downs, limiting the opportunities to keep pace with the Bears.

Bridgeland also showed its depth in the backfield while playing without star running back Kash Schwab, who entered the game with 1,066 rushing yards on 106 carries and 17 touchdowns this season. Austin Mitchell stepped into the lead role and delivered, rushing for 90 yards on 17 carries and scoring twice. Mitchell entered the matchup with 150 yards on 31 carries and two touchdowns on the season, making his performance against George Ranch a significant step forward as the Bears continued their unbeaten start in district play.

Bridgeland put the game out of reach in the third quarter with a dominant stretch on the ground. Austin Mitchell scored on runs of one and two yards, and Jaiden Henry added a two-yard touchdown run. The three rushing scores extended the Bears’ lead to 49-0 before the end of the quarter.

The Longhorns avoided the shutout in the fourth quarter. Tony Morrison connected with Daniel Johnson III on an 11-yard touchdown pass, and George Ranch added the two-point conversion to make the score 49-8.

Bridgeland finished with 397 total yards, including 201 rushing yards and 196 passing yards. The Bears’ balanced production allowed them to control the game on both sides of the ball, while their early passing scores and third-quarter rushing touchdowns created the separation.

The victory keeps Bridgeland unbeaten in district play as the Bears prepare to travel to Fulshear next Friday night.

George Ranch will look to rebound next Thursday when the Longhorns return to Cypress to face Cy Springs.
