Katy Tompkins overcame a back-and-forth first half, then leaned on a dominant rushing attack and a stronger defensive performance after halftime to defeat Katy Jordan 52-28 at Rhodes Stadium on October 10.

The night belonged to Ethan Meadows, who rushed for 359 yards on 38 carries and scored three touchdowns. The performance marked a personal record for Meadows in rushing yardage, making his dominant outing a defining moment in the Falcons’ victory.

The victory completed a remarkable turnaround for the Falcons, who opened the season with three consecutive losses but have now won three straight. Tompkins improved to 3-3 overall and 3-1 in District 22-6A, moving into sole possession of second place behind Katy (7-0, 5-0).

The night belonged to Ethan Meadows, who rushed for 359 yards on 38 carries and scored three touchdowns. His explosive runs repeatedly put Jordan’s defense under pressure, while Tompkins’ defense made the necessary adjustments to keep the Warriors off the scoreboard throughout the second half.

Jordan fell to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in district play. The Warriors entered the night with an opportunity to strengthen their position in the district race, but turnovers and an inability to sustain their offense after halftime proved costly.

A wild first half

The game’s opening sequence immediately set the tone for a night filled with momentum swings.

Jordan’s first possession ended with a fumble that Tompkins’ Zach Jury recovered and returned for a touchdown. The defensive score gave the Falcons an early 7-0 advantage and established turnovers as an important storyline.

Jordan answered quickly. Thomas Eugate connected with London Bumpus for a 52-yard touchdown, tying the game at 7-7.

Tompkins responded with a touchdown pass from JP Vaclavik to Dodavah Omobude, followed by a 22-yard touchdown run from Meadows. The Falcons had built a 21-7 lead before Jordan found its rhythm again.

Eugate connected with Peyton Timmerman for a 24-yard touchdown and later found Rush Williams for a 51-yard score, bringing Jordan all the way back to tie the game at 21-21.

Meadows broke loose for a 62-yard touchdown run to put Tompkins back in front, but Jordan answered with a five-yard touchdown run by Mo Poko. With both offenses trading scores, the game was tied at 28-28 late in the first half.

Tompkins managed one more important score before the break. Mauricio Vazquez connected on a 27-yard field goal as time expired, sending the Falcons into halftime with a narrow 31-28 lead.

The first-half numbers reflected the competitive nature of the game. Tompkins had 298 total yards, including 214 rushing, while Jordan recorded 267 total yards and relied heavily on its passing game, producing 235 passing yards against only 32 rushing yards.

Tompkins takes control after halftime

The Falcons’ lead was only three points at the break, but the second half belonged to Tompkins.

Vaclavik and Omobude connected for their second touchdown of the night, this time on a 10-yard pass, extending the lead to 38-28. The defense then helped shift the momentum further by limiting Jordan’s ability to move the ball and putting the Warriors in increasingly difficult situations.

Meadows briefly left the field with an injury, but Tompkins did not miss a beat. Carter Young took advantage of the opportunity, breaking free for a 33-yard touchdown run to push the lead to 45-28. Meadows returned on the next possession, and the Falcons continued to build on their advantage.

Meadows capped his performance with a 19-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, giving Tompkins its final 52-28 margin.

After scoring 28 points in the first half, Jordan was held scoreless over the final two quarters. The Warriors managed only 67 additional yards after halftime, finishing with 334 total yards for the game. Tompkins, meanwhile, added 198 yards in the second half to finish with 496.

The difference was particularly evident on the ground. Tompkins finished with 395 rushing yards, compared with just 84 for Jordan. The Falcons’ ability to control the game with their rushing attack, combined with the defensive shutout after halftime, turned a close contest into a convincing district victory.

District outlook

The victory gives Tompkins sole possession of second place in District 22-6A at 3-1, behind undefeated Katy. The Falcons’ three-game winning streak has erased the disappointment of their 0-3 start and put them in a strong position as district play continues.

Tompkins will look to extend that streak next Friday night against Cinco Ranch.

Jordan, now 3-2 in district play, is tied with Taylor, Cinco Ranch and Paetow among teams with two district losses. The Warriors have a bye next week before facing Cinco Ranch in two weeks, giving them time to regroup before another important district matchup.
