Angleton continued its unbeaten season Thursday night, using a powerful rushing attack and a dominant second-half performance to defeat Katy Freeman 52-7. The Wildcats improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in District 11-5A Division I, setting the stage for a major district showdown with unbeaten Friendswood in two weeks.

Angleton finished with 494 yards of total offense, including 305 rushing yards, while holding Freeman to 257 yards. The Wildcats combined a productive ground game with timely passing from quarterback Trey Gardner, while their defense limited the Golden Eagles to seven points.

Wildcats Establish Control Early

Angleton opened the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run by Kasen Jammer with 5:13 remaining in the first quarter. Gardner connected with Jake Brittain on a 21-yard completion during the drive to move the Wildcats into scoring position.

Freeman had an opportunity to respond, putting together a nine-play drive that covered 41 yards before turning the ball over on downs. Angleton took advantage, marching 60 yards on eight plays to open the second quarter. Jammer finished the possession with a 3-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 14-0.

Jammer added his third touchdown of the night on an 11-yard run with 2:56 remaining in the first half. The Wildcats then closed the half with a 34-yard field goal by Piotr Wlostowski as time expired, taking a 24-0 advantage into the locker room.

Freeman had opportunities to make the game more competitive. The Golden Eagles put together second-quarter drives of 61 and 49 yards, but both ended with missed field goals. Angleton answered the first missed kick with an 80-yard touchdown drive, further extending its advantage.

Reid Delivers a Stunning Second-Half Performance

Jeremiah Reid, who had not carried the ball in the first half, broke loose for a 70-yard touchdown run on Angleton’s first offensive possession of the third quarter. He struck again on the Wildcats’ next scoring drive, racing 68 yards for another touchdown to push the lead to 38-0.

Reid’s three touchdown runs covered 70, 68 and 23 yards. He finished with 182 rushing yards on just six carries, averaging 30.3 yards per attempt. All six of his carries came in the second half, making his performance one of the defining stories of the night.

Freeman finally reached the scoreboard when quarterback Abraham Alarcon connected with Jeremiah Cooper on a 15-yard touchdown pass with 5:09 remaining in the third quarter. Alarcon completed 14 of 24 passes for 130 yards, while Cooper caught six passes for 64 yards and the Golden Eagles’ lone touchdown.

Angleton responded quickly. Gardner connected with Rock Crawford on an 11-yard touchdown pass, restoring the Wildcats’ 38-point advantage at 45-7. Gardner finished 9 of 14 for 165 yards, providing a complementary passing attack to Angleton’s ground game.

The Wildcats also capitalized on Freeman’s third-quarter mistakes, including an interception and a fumble on consecutive possessions. Angleton added the game’s final touchdown early in the fourth quarter when Reid broke free for a 23-yard run, completing the scoring at 52-7.
