The Breakdown

Bridgeland’s run game against Cy Ranch’s defense is the matchup to watch. Schwab has rushed for 634 yards and 10 touchdowns on 59 carries through three games—an average of 10.7 yards per attempt. He accounts for the great majority of the Bears’ 722 rushing yards. Bridgeland has also thrown for 445 yards, so Cy Ranch cannot devote every defender to the run. Quarterback Taylon Villanueva has completed 37 of 54 passes for 435 yards, with Jackson Ewing leading the receivers at 17 catches for 185 yards.

Cy Ranch can answer on the ground and through the air. Khristian White leads the Mustangs with 227 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while quarterback Braden Baker has added 145 yards and two scores rushing. Baker has completed 32 of 48 passes for 420 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception. Derrick McCullar II gives him a downfield target: eight receptions have produced 181 yards and three touchdowns. The Mustangs’ combination of White’s carries, Baker’s mobility and McCullar’s big plays will test a Bridgeland defense that has allowed 1,121 yards in three games, including 788 through the air.

Both teams have kickers who could matter in a close fourth quarter. Cy Ranch’s Nate Carrier has made three of four field-goal attempts, including a 40-yard winner against C.E. King. Bridgeland’s Austin Anderson is 14-for-14 on extra points and made his lone field-goal attempt, from 36 yards. The Bears also have a defensive scoring threat in Braiden Graves, who has returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown.

Cy Ranch

• Braden Baker, senior quarterback: Has 420 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns and 145 rushing yards. His ability to extend a play gives Bridgeland another concern beyond the designed run game.
• Khristian White, junior running back: Has rushed 42 times for 227 yards and four touchdowns. His production can help Cy Ranch sustain drives and keep Bridgeland’s offense off the field.
• Derrick McCullar II, senior receiver: Has turned eight catches into 181 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 22.6 yards per reception.

Bridgeland

• Kash Schwab, senior running back: Has 634 yards and 10 touchdowns on 59 carries. His explosive runs can change the game in one snap.
• Taylon Villanueva, senior quarterback: Has passed for 435 yards while completing 68.5% of his attempts. His passing will be vital if Cy Ranch crowds the line against Schwab.
• Jackson Ewing, senior receiver: Leads the Bears with 17 catches for 185 yards, providing Villanueva a steady option in the passing game.
• Gavin Aldmon, senior defender: Leads Bridgeland with 23 tackles and has two sacks and four quarterback hurries.

Cy Ranch

1. Limit Schwab’s explosive runs: Bridgeland’s leading rusher is averaging more than 10 yards per carry. Holding him to manageable gains would force the Bears to assemble longer drives.
2. Keep Baker involved in both phases: His passing and rushing production gives the Mustangs ways to respond if Bridgeland takes away their first option.
3. Find McCullar downfield: Bridgeland has allowed 788 passing yards in three games, and McCullar has been Cy Ranch’s biggest receiving threat.

 

Bridgeland

1. Create room for Schwab: His 10 rushing touchdowns have made the ground game the Bears’ clearest path to points.
2. Contain Baker’s scrambles: The Cy Ranch quarterback has rushed for 145 yards and can turn a well-defended pass play into a first down.
3. Prevent deep completions: McCullar’s 22.6 yards per catch make missed coverage especially costly.
