Elkins controlled much of the early action, getting on the scoreboard first when quarterback RJ Evans connected with Kwabena Dako for a 22-yard touchdown pass. Evans finished the night 13-of-26 passing for 141 yards.

Mayde Creek answered immediately in spectacular fashion. Pederien Hopkins took the ensuing kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown, tying the game at 7-7.

The Knights regained the lead when Tyson Craft broke free for a 37-yard touchdown run. Craft was the workhorse for the Elkins offense throughout the night, carrying 36 times for 202 yards.

Elkins carried a 14-7 advantage into halftime.

Mayde Creek finally caught up in the third quarter behind the play of quarterback AJ Ward. Ward scored on a 6-yard run with 8:54 remaining in the quarter to tie the game at 14-14.

Elkins answered once again, as Evans found Kayden Knighten for a 35-yard touchdown with 3:04 left in the third. The Knights took a 21-14 advantage into the fourth quarter.

That’s when the game turned into a wild exchange of punches.

Ward scored his second rushing touchdown of the night, this time from three yards out, with 8:34 remaining to pull Mayde Creek even at 21-21.Ward finished with 124 rushing yards on 24 carries, while also completing 10 of 16 passes for 103 yards.

Elkins appeared to put the game away when Craft scored from one yard out with just 29 seconds remaining, putting Elkins ahead 28-21 and seemingly leaving Mayde Creek with little time to respond.

But the Rams weren’t finished.

Mayde Creek marched to the Elkins 35 yard line with eight seconds remaining in the game. On the ensuing play Ward was forced to scramble before heaving a pass into the end zone targeting Chad Nelson as time expired. 

Pass interference was called and the Rams were given one timeless down from the 20-yard line.Ward again targeted Nelson who this time came down with the ball and the Rams tied the game at 28.

First Overtime 

Elkins struck first in the opening overtime when Craft scored his third touchdown of the night on a 1-yard run.

On 4th & 9 from the Elkins 24 yard line, Ward barely escaped the pass rush and threw a desperation pass into the end zone to Nelson who tipped the ball to himself for the tying TD.

Second Overtime 

In the second overtime, Mayde Creek gained zero yards in 3 plays before Michael Garcia drilled a 42-yard field goal to give the Rams their first lead of the game at 38-35.

On Elkins ensuing possession, Ram’s senior Marvin Francis came up big recording sacks and both 3rd and 4th down to end the game.
