Ten games of note from this past weekend.

Celina entered Friday ranked No. 10 in Class 5A Division II and unbeaten at 6-0. Frisco, meanwhile, entered with a 4-3 record. The Raccoons went into Celina and handed the Bobcats their first defeat of the season, winning by 13 points.

Pittsburg Pirates 58, Gilmer Buckeyes 56

Gilmer’s Yamboree celebration ended with a two-point gut punch.

Pittsburg edged the Buckeyes 58-56, ending Gilmer’s five-game winning streak and handing the No. 6 Class 4A Division II team its second loss of the season.  Pittsburg running back Tayveon Horne carried 21 times for 178 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 8.5 yards per attempt. The Pirates’ 58 points were their highest total of the season.

Cypress Lakes Spartans 38, Cy-Fair Bobcats 31

The 2017 state champion Bobcats are in serious danger of missing the playoffs for the first time since 2009. Marcus Smith led the Spartans with 128 yards and 2 TDs rushing to go with a 12 of 25 for 226 yards passing performance. The Spartans are now on the verge of their second playoff appearance in program history (and consecutive).

Cibolo Steele Knights 57, Judson Rockets 12

Steele turned an anticipated District 27-6A showdown into a blowout, defeating Judson 57-12. Senior quarterback DJ Green accounted for three touchdowns—two passing and one rushing—and threw for 233 yards. Running back Liam Jones and receiver Jamin Harvell each scored twice. Steele outgained Judson 570-237, including a 441-139 advantage in the first half. The Knights improved to 5-1-1 overall and 4-0 in district play, extending their district winning streak to 33 games.

McCollum Cowboys 57, Lanier Voks 21

McCollum clinched its first playoff berth since 2015 with a decisive victory over Lanier. The Cowboys led by only one point at halftime before their offense and defense took control. McCollum scored on its first five possessions after halftime, turning a competitive game into a 36-point victory.

Midland Lee Rebels 32, San Angelo Central Bobcats 27

Midland Lee recovered from an early 14-0 deficit to earn a valuable District 2-6A victory. Quarterback JP Reyes threw for 257 yards and three touchdowns, while the defense made the plays needed to preserve the win. David Ihediwa recorded two interceptions, two sacks and a pass breakup. Lee also blocked a punt during the game.

Episcopal School of Dallas Eagles 32, Arlington Oakridge Owls 20

One of the weekend’s most significant private-school results came when Episcopal School of Dallas defeated Arlington Oakridge. Both teams entered the weekend unbeaten and ranked in the latest available private-school 11-man rankings. Episcopal School of Dallas was No. 6 at 7-0, while Oakridge was No. 9 at 6-0. ESD’s 12-point victory handed Oakridge its first defeat and gave the Eagles a significant head-to-head result against another ranked program.

Abilene Christian Panthers 86, Midland Trinity Chargers 80

Abilene Christian defeated Midland Trinity 86-80 in a six-man football game that produced 166 combined points. The Panthers escaped with their fifth consecutive victory, improving to 6-3, while Trinity fell to 4-3. The teams combined to average more than 41 points per quarter. Even by six-man standards, scoring 80 points and losing is a brutal way to spend a Friday night.

Shiner 41, Ganado 23

Shiner continued its undefeated run, defeating Ganado 41-23 to improve to 8-0 and extend its winning streak to eight games. The Comanches maintained their perfect record while handing Ganado its first district loss, dropping the Indians to 2-1 in district play. Ganado received scoring contributions from Cade Nixon, Logan Bures and Landyn Arriaga, but Shiner’s offense proved too much to overcome.

Tomball 30, Klein 20

Tomball handed Klein its first loss of the season with a 30-20 victory Friday night. The Cougars extended their winning streak to three games, improving to 6-1, while the previously undefeated Bearkats fell to 7-1. Tomball’s 30 points were its lowest offensive output of the season to that point, but the Cougars did enough to secure one of their most meaningful wins of the year.
