The Breakdown
Cinco Ranch offense vs. Tompkins defense
Cinco Ranch has several ways to generate offense, with freshman running back/athlete Jaden Hodges emerging as a particularly productive weapon. Through six games, Hodges has rushed for 449 yards on 54 carries, averaging 8.3 yards per carry, with seven rushing touchdowns. He has also caught 12 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown. His ability to contribute both as a runner and receiver gives the Cougars options for creating favorable matchups.
Senior running back Brayden Gonzalez provides another important piece of the ground game, with 300 rushing yards and four touchdowns, while also recording 224 receiving yards. Junior receiver Jacob Chevez has added 328 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Freshman quarterback Derek Berg has completed 70 of 111 passes for 933 yards and eight touchdowns, giving the Cougars a passing option to complement their rushing attack.
Tompkins will need to prevent Hodges and Gonzalez from producing explosive runs while remaining disciplined against the passing game. The Falcons have allowed 30.33 points per game, so tackling, gap integrity and limiting yards after the catch will be important. Cinco Ranch’s best opportunity may be to establish its rushing attack early and use that success to create openings for Berg and the receiving corps.
Tompkins offense vs. Cinco Ranch defense
Tompkins’ offense is led by senior running back Ethan Meadows, who has accumulated 971 rushing yards on 133 carries through six games. He is averaging 7.3 yards per carry and has scored nine rushing touchdowns. Meadows has also caught 11 passes for 152 yards and another touchdown, making him a threat in multiple phases of the offense.
Senior quarterback JP Vaclavik has completed 79 of 139 passes for 924 yards and eight touchdowns. Senior receiver Dodavah Omobude has contributed 179 receiving yards and four touchdowns, while senior receiver/running back Carter Young has added 173 receiving yards and one touchdown. Junior receiver Alex Parnell has caught 13 passes for 188 yards, providing another target in the passing game.
Cinco Ranch’s defense has allowed 27.00 points per game, a better average than Tompkins’ defensive mark. The Cougars have recorded 416 total tackles and 24 tackles for loss, according to the supplied statistics. Junior linebacker Oliver Crumbliss leads the team with 52 total tackles, while senior defensive back Maverick McConnell has 49 tackles and two interceptions. The Cougars will need to contain Meadows without allowing Vaclavik to exploit defensive attention through the air.
Players to Watch
Cinco Ranch Cougars
- Jaden Hodges, ATH/Freshman: Hodges has rushed for 449 yards and seven touchdowns while adding 179 receiving yards and a receiving score. His explosiveness makes him one of Cinco Ranch’s most important offensive players.
- Derek Berg, QB/Freshman: Berg has thrown for 933 yards and eight touchdowns. His ability to protect the football and deliver accurate passes when Tompkins focuses on the run will be critical.
- Brayden Gonzalez, RB/Senior: Gonzalez has produced 300 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns, plus 224 receiving yards. His versatility gives Cinco Ranch another option to keep the Falcons’ defense from concentrating on one player.
Tompkins Falcons
- Ethan Meadows, RB/Senior: Meadows’ 971 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns make him the focal point of the Falcons’ offense. Cinco Ranch must find a way to limit his production without sacrificing coverage elsewhere.
- JP Vaclavik, QB/Senior: Vaclavik has thrown for 924 yards and eight touchdowns. His decision-making and ability to take advantage of defensive attention on Meadows will be key.
- Dodavah Omobude, WR/TE/Senior: Omobude has recorded 179 receiving yards and four touchdowns. His ability to turn limited opportunities into scoring plays could be a difference-maker.

Keys to the Game
Cinco Ranch Cougars
- Establish the run: Give Hodges and Gonzalez opportunities to create explosive plays and put the offense in manageable situations.
- Protect Derek Berg: Keep the freshman quarterback out of obvious passing situations and avoid drive-killing pressure.
- Limit Ethan Meadows: Gang-tackle the senior running back and prevent him from consistently reaching the second level.
Tompkins Falcons
- Feed Ethan Meadows: Use the senior running back to set the offensive tempo and force Cinco Ranch to commit defenders to the box.
- Make the passing game count: Vaclavik must take advantage of openings created when the Cougars focus on Meadows.
- Win the line of scrimmage: Disrupt the Cougars’ rushing attack and keep Berg from operating comfortably.
Keep Your Eye On
- Jaden Hodges vs. Tompkins’ front seven: Hodges’ big-play ability could change the game quickly if the Falcons struggle to contain him.
- Ethan Meadows’ workload: Watch whether Tompkins can establish the run early and maintain that advantage as the game progresses.
- JP Vaclavik’s passing efficiency: If Cinco Ranch is able to slow down Meadows, Vaclavik may need to stretch the field to create running opportunities
From the Coaches
Cinco Ranch Coach Chris Dudley
“Tompkins is playing their best football of the season right now. They played a tough non-district schedule and had Katy in the first week of district play, so their 0-3 start was very deceiving. They have their offense rolling and Ethan Meadows had over 330 yards rushing last week against Jordan. Their QB J.P. Vaclavik runs the offense well and can hurt you with his running. On defense they are sound and have a couple very talented defensive backs in Blake Jenkins and Zach Jury.
We were bit by injuries during our matchup with Katy a few weeks ago. We’ve had guys step up in several positions and are getting more comfortable as the season progresses. We can’t let Tompkins control the clock on offense with their running game. On offense, we need to take advantage of our possessions and move the chains on 3rd downs.
The Cinco-Tompkins matchup has been an exciting one for the last four years. This week should be no different.”
Tompkins Head Coach Todd McVey
“Cinco, well we are 4 wins to 5 losses to Cinco Ranch since I have been here since 2017. They have great tradition from Coach Clayton’s days there to now Coach Dudley’s time.
They have great skill kids and the young 9th grade QB stands in the pocket and delivers strikes! We will have our hands full.
Defensively they play hard for 4 quarters and get after you. Very well coached and tackle well.
Lots of distractions this week… fall break, homecoming etc.
We must stay focused on our process and be ready for Friday night.”
