Playoff Joaquin 37, Refugio 28

PLAYOFF JOAQUIN!!!! Basically this years version of Woodville. Refugio had a 20-7 lead at the start of the 4th quarter this game and in my opinion lost the game, they were up 28-14. Joaquin scored to cut it to 7, then recovered an onside kick that happened because a Refugio player fell down and the ball hit his foot. the Rams scored, then went for 2 and got it to take a 1 point lead, then recovered a muffed Refugio fair catch, and scored, went for 2 and got it to take a 2 possession lead with less than 2 minutes left and it was over. Playoff Joaquin will play fellow first timer Hamilton in the 2AD1 state title game next Wednesday night.

The way Joaquin celebrated was as if they had won the state title. it was insane. One girl in the band was even like “We get to perform at the home of the Dallas Cowboys!” This is what Texas High School Football is all about and why i love this sport so much.

Speaking of which, the Region 2 darlings used a great defense to book their first ever trip to the state title game.

Newton 74, East Bernard 20

Yes i know East Bernard was a Cinderella, but so was Joaquin, and Newton absolutely destroyed the Bahamas. it was very impressive. Newton has destroyed everyone in the playoffs but will have their biggest test in the state title game when they play the winner of Tonight’s Gunter/Wall Game at 3pm next Thursday.

Muenster 21, Gruver 18

The Hornets Prevail in a defensive battle to advance to the 2AD2 title game Thursday at 11 am where they will play the winner of Tonight’s Shiner/Mount Enterprise game. Follow @txhsfb for updates on this game.
