Langham Creek 56, Cy-Fair 51<\/b><\/p>\n

In a game that kept finding another gear, Langham Creek outlasted Cy-Fair, 56-51, in a wild 16-6A shootout at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium on Friday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 107-point contest featured explosive plays, two successful onside-kick recoveries by Cy-Fair, a 93-yard kickoff return touchdown and a frantic finish. But Langham Creek answered nearly every Bobcat surge, doing enough offensively to leave with the victory and a place in the postseason.<\/span><\/p>\n

The opening half suggested Cy-Fair might have trouble keeping pace. Langham Creek took a 7-0 lead on Jace Williams’ 19-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, then extended the margin to 14-0 when Williams scored again on a 9-yard run early in the second.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cy-Fair got on the board when Sean Riegler connected with Kaden Lewis for an 11-yard touchdown, cutting the deficit to 14-7. The Bobcats had another opportunity to pull even late in the half, but Nicholas Gautam intercepted a Riegler pass in the end zone with 1:46 remaining.<\/span><\/p>\n

Langham Creek needed just 56 seconds to capitalize. Williams found Camarre Palmer over the middle, and Palmer broke free for a 63-yard touchdown that sent the Lobos into halftime with a 21-7 advantage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cy-Fair came out of the break with a different level of urgency. Riegler found Kevin Ferrygood for a 14-yard touchdown, and the Bobcats recovered the ensuing onside kick. The combination paid off again when Riegler and Ferrygood connected for a 19-yard score, tying the game at 21.<\/span><\/p>\n

Langham Creek answered with another Williams touchdown run, this one covering 34 yards. After Cy-Fair lost a fumble on the ensuing kickoff return, the Lobos quickly struck again as Williams hit Mason Dowty for a 41-yard touchdown.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bobcats refused to go away. Riegler found Henry Brooks for an 8-yard touchdown, and Cy-Fair recovered a second onside kick to keep the pressure on. Wyley Mallory’s 34-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter pulled the Bobcats within five, 35-30.<\/span><\/p>\n

The teams traded explosive plays from there. Joseph Hopkins scored on a 26-yard run for Langham Creek, but Lewis answered with a 93-yard kickoff return touchdown to make it 42-37. Palmer added a 6-yard rushing touchdown for the Lobos, pushing the lead to 49-37.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cy-Fair made one more push. With the Bobcats facing fourth-and-goal from the Langham Creek 4, Riegler found Brooks for a touchdown with 3:24 remaining, trimming the margin to 49-44. Langham Creek recovered the ensuing onside kick, however, and Williams put the game away with a 34-yard touchdown run at the 1:52 mark.<\/span><\/p>\n

Riegler connected with Joshua Comier for an 18-yard touchdown with 26 seconds left, bringing Cy-Fair within five. But Langham Creek recovered the final onside-kick attempt to secure the 56-51 victory.<\/span><\/p>\n

The result settled the final playoff picture in District 16-6A. Langham Creek’s win clinched a postseason berth and completed the district’s four-team playoff field, joining Cypress Falls, Cypress Lakes and Cypress Woods. Cy-Fair’s loss eliminated the Bobcats.<\/span><\/p>\n

Langham Creek improved to 7-2 overall and 5-1 in district play. The Lobos close the regular season Nov. 7 against Cypress Creek. Cy-Fair fell to 5-4 overall and 2-4 in district play and will finish its season Nov. 5 against Cypress Ridge.<\/span><\/p>\n
