Simpson rushed for 279 yards and six touchdowns as the Golden Eagles turned turnovers into opportunities and kept the Lobos’ offense from finding much traction.

Despite the lopsided final score, the result leaves District 16-6A in a fascinating position. Langham Creek and Cy Falls are now joined by Cy Woods and Cy Lakes in a four-way tie for first place, with all four teams sitting at 4-1 in district play.

The race for playoff positioning is about to get interesting.

Simpson Takes Over

Simpson was the driving force behind the Cy Falls offense, repeatedly finding room to run and finishing with 279 yards on 30 carries. All six of his touchdowns came on the ground, accounting for 36 of the Golden Eagles’ 45 points.

He opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, then broke through for a 19-yard score early in the second. Later in the quarter, Simpson took a direct snap and powered into the end zone on a 1-yard tush push, extending the Cy Falls lead to 24-7.

The performance continued after halftime. Simpson added a 5-yard touchdown in the third quarter before scoring from 7 yards out early in the fourth. He capped his performance with another 5-yard touchdown run with 7:26 remaining.

Mama, there goes that man again!

Cy Falls also received a 42-yard field goal from Andres Linares in the second quarter. The kick extended the Golden Eagles’ advantage to 17-7 before Simpson added his third touchdown of the game.

Turnovers Tilt the Game

Cy Falls repeatedly gained the upper hand by taking the ball away from Langham Creek. Cameron Colvin intercepted a pass on the Lobos’ opening possession, giving the Golden Eagles an early opportunity. Langham Creek eventually answered Cy Falls’ opening touchdown with a 32-yard scoring connection from Jace Williams to Camarre Palmer, tying the game at 7-7.

The turnovers continued. Cy Falls recovered a Langham Creek fumble in the first quarter and another in the second, setting up additional opportunities for the Golden Eagles. The second recovery put Cy Falls at the Langham Creek 37-yard line and helped set up Linares’ field goal.

There was also a moment when Cy Falls appeared ready to add another touchdown before halftime. Karzell Davis intercepted an errant Langham Creek pass and returned it 57 yards for what looked like a pick-six. However, multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties wiped out the return, and the Golden Eagles took over at their own 27-yard line instead.

Langham Creek’s difficulties continued after the break. Liam Madkins intercepted a pass in the third quarter, and Cy Falls continued to capitalize on its opportunities.

The Golden Eagles also recovered their own onside kick in the third quarter, taking possession at the Langham Creek 32-yard line. That sequence further swung field position in Cy Falls’ favor as it continued to build its lead.

The Numbers Tell the Story

Cy Falls finished with 432 yards of total offense, including 332 rushing yards and 100 passing yards. Simpson led the ground attack, while Christian Ndujiuba completed 6 of 13 passes for 100 yards.

Andre Lewis led the Cy Falls receiving group with four catches for 97 yards. Joziah McNeely added one reception for five yards, while TJ McCoy had one catch for minus-2 yards.

Langham Creek finished with 175 yards of total offense, including 85 rushing yards and 90 passing yards. Williams completed 4 of 15 passes and also led the Lobos in rushing with 56 yards on 15 carries.

Jordan King added 21 rushing yards on five attempts, while Joseph Hopkins gained 12 yards on four carries. Camarre Palmer finished with a 32-yard touchdown reception, and Ethan Robison led the Lobos in receiving yardage with 40 yards on one catch. Mason Dowty added 13 receiving yards, and Hopkins caught one pass for five yards.

The difference in total yardage — 432 for Cy Falls to 175 for Langham Creek — reflected the Golden Eagles’ control of the game.

Four Teams, One District Race

The biggest storyline extends beyond Saturday’s final score. Four teams now share the top spot in District 16-6A, each with a 4-1 district record.

Langham Creek is 7-1 overall, while Cy Falls is also 7-1. Cy Woods is 6-1, and Cy Lakes is 6-2. All four remain in the thick of the district race, and the remaining schedule includes games that could dramatically reshape the standings.

Langham Creek’s final two games are against Cy-Fair on October 29 and Cy-Creek on November 7. Cy Falls faces Cy Ridge on October 29 before meeting Cy Woods on November 7.

Cy Woods has a huge matchup against Cy Lakes on October 31, followed by its game against Cy Falls on November 7. Cy Lakes meets Cy Woods on October 31 and closes its regular season against Jersey Village on November 6.

With several head-to-head matchups still to come, the four-way tie is far from settled.

I’ll be crunching the numbers and sorting through the scenarios in this district for my Playoff Scenarios article. So if you see smoke over Tomball, it’s probably coming from my brain trying to figure this one out.

For now, Cy Falls can celebrate a convincing win powered by Simpson’s remarkable game.
