BECKVILLE- J’Koby Williams rushed for 215 yards and accounted for five touchdowns as Beckville rolled to a 62-7, District 10-2A win over Ore City at R.C. Beauchamp Stadium on Thursday night.
Ore City entered the game as big underdogs but got off to a good start when they returned the opening kickoff to the Beckville 47 yard-line. The Rebels, however, were unable to take advantage of the good field position and turned the ball over after failing to convert a fourth down.
Beckville, (6-1 overall, 3-0 district) wasted no time in taking a, 7-0 lead as they scored on their very first play from scrimmage when Williams got around the right edge and out-ran everyone for a 58-yard touchdown.
Beckville increased their lead to 13-0 on their next possession when Williams took a direct snap and weaved his way in-and-out of defenders for a 24-yard touchdown.
Ore City (2-6, 1-3) continued to struggle moving the ball against a stingy Bearcat defense that didn’t give up a single first down throughout the first half, while forcing two turnovers and limiting the Rebels to just 35 yards of total offense at the break.
Beckville continued to pad their lead when Bo Hammons scored on a 4-yard run up the middle to make the score, 20-0 on the first play of the second quarter. It was the first of three touchdowns on the night for Hammons.
The Bearcats continued to click on all cylinders early in the second quarter when they turned a 3rd-and-27 into a 57-yard touchdown. Quarterback Calan Castles rolled to his right then tossed a throwback screen to Williams, who sprinted his way for a 57-yard score to give Beckville a 27-0 lead.
Williams’ big night continued on Beckville’s next drive when he delivered his fourth touchdown of the first half on a 19-yard scoring run up the middle of the field to give the Bearcats a 34-0 lead. Beckville capped the first half with another score that resulted in a 12-yard touchdown pass from Castles to JT Smith with no time left on the clock to give the Bearcats a commanding, 41-0 halftime lead.
The Bearcats put the game away for good on the opening possession of the second half when Williams broke free for a 32-yard touchdown for his fifth touchdown of the game to give Beckvillle a 48-0 lead.
Hammons then provided some excitement as he broke two tackles at the line of scrimmage then turned on the jets for a 53-yard score to give the Bearcats a 55-0 lead. Ore City avoided the shutout on a 4-yard touchdown run by Donald Veasley .
Beckville closed the scoring out with a nice 50-yard kickoff return by Hammons, who scooped up an attempted onside kick and took it to the house for his third score of the night.
Beckville will travel to Frankston next week in what will likely be the de facto District 10-2A championship game. Ore City is idle next week and will need to win its final two games against Frankston and Harleton plus get a lot of help to have a chance at a playoff spot.
