JACKSONVILLE- Crandall scored a pair of touchdowns in the first 64 seconds of the fourth quarter, including an 86-yard fumble return by lineman Hudson West to hold on for a 42-37, non-district win over Jacksonville at the historic Tomato Bowl.

Crandall (3-0) appeared to be in full control of the game as they quickly built up a 28-7 lead over Jacksonville. Quarterback Luke Moffitt tossed three touchdowns, including a pair of scoring strikes to receiver Josh Smith.

Chris Abron added a 54-yard touchdown run, but Jacksonville scored 17 straight points to trim the lead to 28-24 late in the third quarter as Devin McCuin rushed for a 6-yard score then hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from McCown.

Crandall scored on the first play of the fourth quarter to take a 35-24 lead when Andrew Anderson busted through the middle for a 29-yard touchdown. Crandall’s defense then came up with a big play when they jarred the ball away from McCown which paved the way for West’s 76-yard scoop-and-score.

For the second time in the contest, Jacksonville staged a furious rally as they scored 13 straight points on a 4-yard touchdown by Jermaine Taylor, followed by a 2-yard scoring rumble by Jayden Boyd to trim Crandall’s lead to 42-37 with 6:28 left in the game.

Crandall was dealt a big blow in the fourth quarter when they lost their starting quarterback to an apparent left leg injury. Jacksonville had a golden chance to get the ball back and perhaps steal their first victory of the season but Crandall preserved the victory with a bit of trickery on a lateral to receiver Deondre Bowman, who completed a 27-yard, first down pass to ice the game.
