Returning Starters: 3 offense, 4 defense
The defense should be solid with two FBS prospects (Daymion Sanford, Alexander Kilgore) returning at LB and another FBS prospect (D.J. Hicks) transferring in at DL.
The offense will need to retool but does return running back Damyrion Phillips who rushed for nearly 1,000 yards and 17 TDS in 2021.
Lonnie Teagle takes over as HFC after B.J. Gotte departs for Pearland. Teagle won a state championship as the OC at Denton Ryan in 2020.
Teagle likes what he sees from his players as they move to 6A. “We have kids who are not resting on their laurels after winning the state championship in 5A division one last year. They’re hungry to prove themselves they can play in 6A. That’s the challenge. They’ve got a chip on their shoulder… Our kids are smart. Our kids have a passion. They love the game. They put in the extra hours and the extra time. It’s hard sometimes to get these kids to go home. They want to live here. They want to live in the weight room. They want to live on the practice field. It’s a great atmosphere.”
The Panthers move up to 6A into a district composed all Katy ISD schools.
