A VERY slow Thursday with only 2 UIL games and 3 TAPPS 6-man Championship games, so I thought I’d do a short recap on each game.

TAPPS 6-Man Division 1 Championship

Pasadena First Baptist 54, Waco Vanguard College Prep 18

Vanguard Prep score first but their lead didn’t last long and once First Baptist scored to take a 8-6 lead early in the 1st, they never trailed again en route to 54-18 win.

This was FIrst Baptist’s 2nd consecutive TAPPs 6-man title in their three championship appearances.

TAPPS 6-Man Division 3 Championship

Waco Valor Prep 51, Lake Jackson Brazosport Christian 6

Valor Prep led wire-to-wire taking an 8-0 lead just a minute and 16 seconds into the game and never looking back. While Valor Prep did win via the 45-point mercy rule the game did go late into the 3rd quarter before the 45-point margin was reached.

This was both team’s first title game appearance. This was Valor Prep’s second season of varsity football.

TAPPS 6-Man Division 1 Championship

Huntsville Alpha Omega 101, Fort Covenant Classical 56

It was a record setting performance in Waco as the Alpha Omega Lions scored the most ever points in a TAPPS 6-man champion game besting Seguin LIfegate’s 90 points in 2017. The teams combined 157 points was also the most ever in a TAPPS 6-man tile game topping the 156 points scored by Conroe Covenant (80) and Abilene Christian (76) in 2003.

The game was tied at 16 after one quarter. Alpha Omega pulled away in the second quarter leading 53-32 at the half. Alpha Omega led 77-56 after three quarters. Alpha Omega shut out Covenant Classical in the fourth quarter while scoring 24 to win via the 45-point mercy rule with 2:15 remaining in the game.

This was Alpha Omega’s first championship win in 3 appearances.

UIL 3AD2 Region 2 Final

Gunter 45, Leonard 14

Gunter will be making it’s 10th consecutive state semifinal game after leading wire-to-wire against Leonard. Gunter led 7-0 after the first, 28-0 at the half and 42-0 after 3 quarters.

UIL 2AD1 Region 4 Final

Refugio 27, Mason 13

Refugio will return to the state semifinal for the first time since they won the state title in 2022.

Refugio scored first but failed on the PAT. Mason led 7-6 after the first quarter. Refugio scored in the second quarter, converted a two-point conversion and led 14-7 at the half. Mason cut the lead to 14-13 (PAT failed) and was within that single point when the 3rd quarter ended. Refugio scored twice in the fourth quarter to win 27-13.
