Projections /Picks For This Game
Dave Campbell’s Computer (otherwise known as Jerry Forest of pigskinprep.com) favors Manvel by 1.
Massey Ratings (masseyratings.com) favors Hightower by 1.
I have my own projector that I break out from time-to-time. The projector looks at each team’s performance versus their average performance. This projector favors Manvel by 2.
Both Antony and I are picking Manvel in this game but both of us think this is a toss-up kind of game that either team can win.
What I Expect to See
Manvel had to win last Friday night to get into the playoffs so their playoffs essentially started a week ago.
This game is a huge contrast in styles offensively. Hightower is a pass first team. The offense flows through Khylan Davis who leads the team in both passing and rushing (by a large margin).
Manvel is a run first team and really spreads the ball around in all aspects of the game. QB Renfro is the second leading rusher on the team. Mosely is the leading rusher. 4 different Mavericks have 7+ TDs rushing (Mosley, Renfro, Malone Hayes, Brown). 12 different receivers have shared in the 18 passing TDs on the season for the Mavericks.
Despite the difference in style the teams have virtually identical average points scored game.
I think these teams are very evenly matched. In this sort of game, the difference usually comes down to turnovers and special teams play.
The team that wins the turnover battle and/or scores defensively or on special teams will likely win this game.
