Projections For This Game
Dave Campbell’s Computer (otherwise known as Jerry Forest of pigskinprep.com) favors Dickinson by 20.
Massey Ratings (masseyratings.com) favors Dickinson by 27.
I have my own projector that I break out from time-to-time. The projector looks at each team’s performance versus their average performance. This projector favors Dickinson by 21.
What I Expect to See
The strength of Dickinson is their aggressive defense. They enter this game with a +11 turnover ratio having generated 25 turnovers versus surrendering 14 turnovers.
Deer Park is good in the turnover department having generated 19 turnovers versus surrendering 12 turnovers for a +7 turnover ratio.
Dickinson RB Malachi Gamble has missed the last two games with a foot injury (he was wearing a medical boot prior to the last game). No word on whether or not he’ll play in this game. His replacement Tavin Gomez did a credible job against Clear Springs and Clear Falls. And I expect the same in this game.
Dickinson enters the game as the top scoring and yardage offense in 24-6A. I expect Aguirre, Gomez and Peterson to be solid on offense and lead the Dickinson to a score in the mid to high 40s or low to mid 50s. Only two teams have held the Gators under 45 points. Those were Katy (34) and Cy-Fair (35). Two of the top defenses in the region.
Deer Park will need big games on defense from Wytek, Benavides, Ferris and Medley to slow the Gators down.
Deer Park leads 24-6A in rushing yards behind Junior RB Trace Yates but they like to really spread the run game around. Yates has only 633 of the Deer’s 2049 yards rushing and no other runner has reached 320 yards (the minimum to display of the stat sheet I use).
Dickinson will need their front 7 to step up, make the right reads and slow down the Deer run game.
Make no mistake that Deer Park enters this game as the underdog (especially after their loss to Clear Springs last week). They will need to win the turnover battle and generate scores on defense and/ or special teams to pull this one out.
