I’ll be covering this game live Friday night so I thought I’d get myself up to speed before the game and share some of my research with you.
Why does this game matter?
UPDATED to reflect Cy Lakes win over Langham Creek on Thursday.
These two teams are currently tied for 3rd one game head of Langham Creek and Cy Lakes.
Waller now clinches the playoffs with a win in this game. They win all possible tiebreakers they could fall into if they somehow lose to Cy Park.
Cy Springs doesn’t clinch a playoff berths with a win, but they get closer.
For both teams, a lose doesn’t eliminate them from the playoffs, but it puts them in a 3-way tie with Langham Creek and Cy Lakes with one week to play.
The results of the Cy Ranch/ Bridgeland game on Friday effects Cy Springs ability to finish 2nd but doesn’t impact either of these teams ability to make the playoffs.

Projections For This Game
Dave Campbell’s Computer (otherwise known as Jerry Forest of pigskinprep.com) favors Waller by 2.
Massey Ratings (masseyratings.com) favors Cy Springs by 1.
I have own scoring projector that compares a teams performance against their opponents averages. This projector favors Cy Springs by 3.
What I Expect to See
I expect to see a major contrast in styles. Waller has the #1 yardage offense (and #4 scoring offense) in 16-6A. Cy Springs has the #1 yardage defense (and #1 scoring offense) in 16-6A.
Both teams want to run first, though Cy Springs is a bit more extreme on the run than Waller.
For Waller the obvious offensive key is Robert Carter. I covered a Waller game earlier in the year where Carter missed the first half. The Bulldogs were very different when Carter was on the field.
Defensively, Weston Hubertus is the star of the show. Waller has a +10 turnover ratio, Hubertus has produced 8 turnovers (6 interceptions, 2 recovered fumbles).
For Cy Springs, Paris Melvin, Jr is the star of the show leading in both rushing and receiving and averaging 23 yards a punt return.
On defense the burden is shared. Up front Johnathan Ijoma has dominated with 82 tackles (leading 16-6A), 13 TFL and 4 sacks (leading 16-6A). In the backfield, K’Irvin Hollerman has dominated with 11 passes broken up (leading 16-6A) and 2 interceptions.
One key to the game will be the Waller kicking and punting game keeping the ball out of the hands of the Cy Springs returners. The more often the returners have a chance, the more likely they will be to break the game open with a long return.
Another key to the game will be each sides ability to limit the others explosive plays.
For the season, Waller has pressured the QB more than Cy Springs and that has led to some of their turnovers.
I’m expecting a tough tight game that is decided by a big play late.
