Each week I’ll take a look at districts that are in district play and picks a key (or close) game in each district.

If a district isn’t listed below, they haven’t started district play yet.

4-6A

Southlake Carroll vs Eluess Trinity

Both teams are 3-0 overall and 1-0 in district play. Clearly the top two teams in the district. Southlake Carroll is the #1 ranked 6A team in the state. Can Trinity pull off the upset.

6-6A

Princeton v s Prosper Rock Hill

Allen and Prosper should be the top two teams in the district. Princeton and Rock Hill are in the conversation (with several other teams) for the other two playoff spots.

8-6A

Arlington Martin vs Arlington Lamar

Not really a key game in terms of district outcome but might be the closest game this week as the district opens district play.

9-6A

Garland Sachse vs Wylie

I have Sachse as the #2 team in the district and Wylie as the #5 team. A win by Wylie would go a long way toward improving their playoff prospects.

11-6A

Duncanville vs Waxahachie

The district opener pits two of the top three teams (DeSoto being the 3rd) in district.

13-6A

The Woodlands vs Willis

The Wildkats have won this game (and the district) the last two years. I don’t think this game has the same stakes this year, but still it’s a key game for the Highlanders to return to form and setup a possible matchup Week 8 for the district title.

15-6A

Klein Oak vs Klein Cain

Both teams opened district play with a loss last week. A 2nd loss this early in the season will all but eliminate the loser from playoff contention.

16-6A

Waller vs Cy Woods

The opening week of 16-6A district play pits the teams I have ranked 4th and 5th in district against each other. Right out the gate one team will have a leg up on a playoff spot and the other team will be battling from behind.

19-6A

Jordan vs Mayde Creek

Based on their overtime win over Tompkins, I now have Jordan as the #2 team in the district. Mayde Creek should be competing with Cinco Ranch and Paetow for the final playoff spot (behind Katy, Jordan and Tompkins). A Mayde Creek win would boost their playoff aspirations and through the battle for 2nd and 3rd into chaos.

21-6A

FB Travis vs FB Hightower

Ridge Point has emerged as the clear favorite in 21-6A. A surprise Travis team has thrust themselves into the conversation for 2nd play with their primary competition being Hightower. The loser of this game is basically eliminated from district title conversation. The winner has the inside track on 2nd place and a shot at the district title if they can upset Ridge Point.

22-6A

Manvel vs Shadow Creek

These two Alvin ISD teams opened with district wins last week and now they face off in what should basically eliminate the loser from district championship competition. The winner will still have to face Pearland to win the crown.

24-6A

Clear Falls vs Deer Park

Dickinson is the clear favorite for the district title. These two teams are competing for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th along with Clear Springs.

25-6A

Vista Ridge vs Stony Point

I see Vandegrift and Hutto at the favorites for 1st and 2nd.

I then see five  teams (McNeil, Vista Ridge, Round Rock, Cedar Ridge and Stony Point) being in the conversation for the final two spots.

Vista Ridge with a win over Round Rock last week would take a huge step forward with a win this week over Stony Point. Stony Point needs the win to avoid dropping to 0-2 in district play.

28-6A

O’Connor vs Sotomayor

Taft, O’Connor, and Sotomayor should be competing for 3rd and 4th behind Brennan and Harlan. That makes this a key game for both teams.

3-5AD1

Richland vs Brewer

These are the teams I have ranked 3rd and 4th in district. The winner takes a big step forward toward a playoff spot.

4-5AD1

I don’t see any key or close games in this district this week. Closest matchup might be Paschal vs North Side which I have as a 4 to 5 score game,

5-5AD1

Wakeland vs Reedy

Both teams opened district play with a win last week. I have both as potential playoff teams competing for 2nd, 3rd and 4th (along with Frisco behind Lone Star). A win would be huge each team’s playoff outlook.

6-5AD1

I don’t see any key or close games in this district this week. Closest matchup might be West Mesquite vs Adams which I see as 20+ point spread.

10-5AD1

Houston Wetsbury vs Houston Madison

The four teams that are 1-0 in district play (Westbury, Waltrip, Madison, Sterling) should be the four playoff teams. I don’t see a huge gap between any of the four teams so every game amongst the four starts to clarification the picture in this district.

12-5AD1

A&M Consolidated  vs College Station

College Station opened district play with a loss to Austin Anderson. Now the Cougars face district rival A&M Consolidated in a must win game if the Cougars want any chance to avoid a road trip to likely either Angleton or La Porte in the first round of the playoffs.

13-5AD1

Smithson Valley vs Boerne Champion

Both should be playoff teams. Smithson Valley is a big favorite in the game.

14-5AD1

Jay vs Southwest Legacy

Both teams are in the conversation for play spots and opened district with wins last week.

15-5AD1

I don’t see any key or close games in this district this week. Closest matchup might be PSJA Memorial vs Weslaco East which I have a 16+ point spread.

16-5AD1

McAllen Rowe vs La Joya Palmview

I have these teams rated 4th and 5th in the district. This district opening game may well be for the 4th playoff spot in district.

1-5AD2

El Paso Del Valle vs Canutillo

This may well be the defacto district championship game. Both teams opened with wins in their district openers.

3-5AD2

Colleyville Heritage vs Mansfield TImberview

Timberview (having lost their district opener to Argyle) tries to avoid an 0-2 start. I do have both teams rated as playoff teams from this district.

4-5AD2

Lovejoy vs Anna

The winner of the game stays in contention for the district tile (with Walnut Grove and Melissa also in the picture). The loser will be relegated to battling it out for home field seeding in the 1st round of the playoffs.

5-5AD2

Dallas Samuell vs Dallas Hillscrest

I see these teams as #2 and #3 in district (behind South Oak Cliff) with perhaps Seagoville in the conversation.

6-5AD2

Kaufman vs Ennis

I have these teams ranked 5th and 6th in district. The winner kicks their playoff hopes alive while the loser will have an uphill battle.

9-5AD2

Richmond Randle vs FB Marshall

Defending state champion Randle and traditional power Marshall face off in the district opener.

11-5AD2

McCallum vs Elgin

I have three teams competing for the 4th playoff spot. These are two of them (along with Connally) behind Bastrop, Pflugerville and LIberty HIll.

1-4AD1

Fabens vs San Elizario

While I don’t see any games having a big impact of the district this week, this game at least should be a close game.

8-4AD1

Dallas Roosevelt vs North Dallas

I see Kimball, Carter and Lincoln as clear pay teams. I then have 4 teams competing for 4th – Wilmer-Hutchins, Pinkston and these two teams.

11-4AD1

North Forest vs Houston Worthing

I see this game as the game for 2nd place in the district. Yates is the clear favorite for the district crown.

16-3AD1

Lyford vs Bishop

I see Lyford as a playoff team and I see Bishop battling for the 4th playoff spot.

10-2AD1

Elysian Fields vs Hawkins

These are the two teams I see as competing for 3rd and 4th in this district.

14-2AD2

Somerville vs Snook

It’s the only district game in the district this week, so while I see Somerville as a big favorite in the game (and for 4th in district), I’ll say this is the key game in the district this week!
