Tony Blalock

A quick look at the Greater Houston Area districts headed into Week 10.

Each team’s remaining schedule is listed after their current district record.

13-6A

The Woodlands (7-0) –Willis, OPEN

Willis (6-0) –The Woodlands, Oak Ridge

Oak Ridge (5-1) –Caney Creek, Willis

College Park (3-3) –New Caney, Conroe

New Caney (2-4) –College Park, Caney Creek

Conroe (2-4) –Cleveland, College Park

Caney Creek (1-5) –Oak Ridge, New Caney

Cleveland (0-6) –Conroe, Grand Oaks

Week 9: The Woodlands, Oak Ridge, Conroe and New Caney win week 9.

Tony’s take: Willis and The Woodlands face off this week. If The Woodlands wins they clinch the district title. Willis still has a matchup against Oak Ridge in Week 11. College Park and News Caney face off in a must win game for New Caney.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Willis, 2) The Woodlands, 3) Oak Ridge, 4) College Park

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 The Woodlands; D1-2 College Park; D2-1 Willis; D2-2 Oak Ridge

Note: The team to keep a close eye on is College Park. The fourth playoff spot is very much up in the air between College Park, New Caney and Conroe and may very well come down to tiebreakers.

14-6A

Westfield (5-0) –Davis, Aldine

Nimitz (4-1) –Spring, DeKaney

DeKaney (4-1) – MacArthur, Nimitz

Spring (3-2) – Nimitz, Eisenhower

Davis (2-3) – Westfield, MacArthur

Eisenhower (1-4) – Aldine, Spring

MacArthur (1-4) – DeKaney, Davis

Aldine (0-5) – Eisenhower, Westfield

Week 9: Nimitz, Westfield and DeKaney with big wins. Davis edges Eisenhower.

Tony’s take: Davis didn’t pull off a win against Nimitz so this district has solidified a bit.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Westfield, 2) DeKaney, 3) Nimitz, 4) Spring

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 Westfield; D1-2 Spring; D2-1 DeKaney; D2-2 Nimitz

Note: It would now take multiple upsets to change the playoff teams. The only thing that may change is the ordering of the D2 teams. DeKaney and Nimitz meet Week 11 and the winner will likely be the D2-1 seed and the other the D2-2 seed.

15-6A

Klein Collins (5-0) – Tomball, Klein

Tomball (4-1) – Klein Collins, Klein Cain

Tomball Memorial (4-1) – Klein Oak, Waller

Klein Cain (3-2) – Waller, Tomball

Klein Oak (2-3) – Tomball Memorial, Klein Forest

Klein Forest (1-4) – Klein, Klein Oak

Waller (1-4) – Klein Cain, Tomball Memorial

Klein (0-5) – Klein Forest, Klein Collins

Week 9: Tomball Memorial survives a scare from Klein. Collins, Tomball and Oak all win.

Tony’s take: Kelin Collins is the clear favorite to win the district. Tomball, Tomball Memorial and Klein Cain should be the remaining playoff teams.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Klein Collins, 2) Tomball Memorial, 3) Tomball, 4) Klein Cain

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 Klein Collins; D1-2 Klein Cain; D2-1 Tomball Memorial; D2-2 Tomball

Note: Klein Collins, Tomball and Tomball Memorial have clinched playoff spots. Klein Cain would clinch a playoff spot with a win over Waller this week.

Cy Springs (4-1) – Cy Woods, Bridgeland

Langham Creek (1-4) – Cy Ranch, Cy Lakes

Cy Park (0-5) – Cy Falls, Cy Woods

Week 9: Bridgeland, Cy Falls, Cy Ranch and Langham Creek win.

Tony’s take: Bridgeland is the clear favorite to win the district now.  Cy Springs and Bridgeland face off Week 11.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Bridgeland, 2) Cy Falls, 3) Cy Springs, 4) Cy Ranch

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 Bridgeland; D1-2 Cy Ranch; D2-1 Cy Falls; D2-2 Cy Springs

Note: Cy Ranch has already beaten Cy Woods and would have an edge in any tie-breaker against the Wildcats.

17-6A

Cy Fair (5-0) – Cy Ridge, Memorial

Memorial (5-0) – Stratford, Cy Fair

Stratford (4-1) – Memorial, Jersey Village

Jersey Village (3-2) – Northbrook, Stratford

Cy Ridge (2-3) – Cy Fair, Cy Creek

Cy Creek (1-4) – Spring Woods, Cy Ridge

Spring Woods (0-5) – Cy Creek, Northbrook

Northbrook (0-5) – Jersey Village, Spring Woods

Week 8: Memorial stuns Jersey Village. Cy Creek, Stratford and Cy Fair all win.

Tony’s take: Memorial’s win over Jersey Village is big in terms of upsets but doesn’t really affect the seeding in the district, just the order of finish.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Cy Fair, 2) Stratford, 3) Memorial, 4) Jersey Village

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 Cy Fair; D1-2 Jersey Village; D2-1 Stratford; D2-2 Memorial

Note: The Memorial/ Stratford game this week should 2nd and 3rd and D2 seeding.

18-6A

Lamar (5-0) – OPEN, Bellaire

Heights (3-1) – Sam Houston, Chavez

Bellaire (3-1) – Chavez, Lamar

Westbury (2-3) – Westside, OPEN

Sam Houston (1-3) – Heights, Westside

Westside (1-3) – Westbury, Sam Houston

Chavez (0-4) – Bellaire, Heights

Week 8: Bellaire, Lamar and Heights all win.

Tony’s take: I think the top 3 of Lamar, Heights and Bellaire are safely in. 4th place is still up in the air.

Tony’s projected finish:1) Lamar, 2) Heights, 3) Bellaire, 4) Westbury

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 Lamar; D1-2 Bellaire; D2-1 Heights; D2-Westbury

Note: Westbury vs Westside is likely to determine the 4th playoff spot. If Westbury wins you get the alignment above. If Westside wins you get Bellaire and Westside as your D1 teams and Lamar goes D2 along with Westbury. In that case it would be D1-1 Bellaire, D1-2 Westside.

19-6A

Katy (6-0) – Seven Lakes, Taylor

Taylor (5-1) – Paetow, Katy

Jordan (4-2) – Tompkins, Morton Ranch

Mayde Creek (2-5) – Morton Ranch, OPEN

Seven Lakes (1-5) – Katy, Cinco Ranch

Morton Ranch (1-5) – Mayde Creek, Jordan

Paetow (1-5) – Taylor, Tompkins

Week 9: Taylor knocks off Jordan. Katy, Tompkins and Paetow all win.

Tony’s Take: It looks like Katty, Taylor and Jordan are playoff teams. Either Tompkins or Cinco Ranch is the 4th playoff team. This would lock Katy in D1.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Katy,  2) Tompkins 3) Taylor, 4) Jordan

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 Katy: D1-2 Tompkins; D2-1 Taylor; D2-2 Jordan

Note: The Tompkins/ Jordan game this week is key. In my projections if Jordan wins then the district is 1) Katy, 2) Taylor, 3) Jordan, 4) Cinco Ranch. If Tompkins wins then the district is 1) Katy, 2) Tompkins, 3) Taylor, 4) Jordan

Week 9: Ridge Point, Clements, George Ranch and Hightower win.

Tony’s Take: No changes this week.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Ridge Point, 2) Hightower, 3) George Ranch, 4) Travis

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 Ridge Point; D1-2 Travis; D2-1 Hightower, D2-2 George Ranch

Note: Travis’ prior win over Austin gives them the edge in any tiebreakers for 4th..

Summer Creek (4-1) – King, Atascocita

Tony’s Take: Two key games this week: North Shore/ Atascocita and Summer Creek/ C.E. King

Tony’s projected finish: 1) North Shore, 2) Atascocita, 3) Summer Creek 4) King

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 North Shore; D1-2 Atascocita; D2-1 Summer Creek; D2-2 King

Note: The outcome of this week’s games will not change the D1 and D2 teams just the seeding within the divisions.

22-6A

Dobie (5-0) –South Houston, OPEN

Channelview (2-2) – Pasadena, Pasadena Memorial

Deer Park (3-1) – Sam Rayburn, South Houston

Pasadena Memorial (3-2) – OPEN, Channelview

South Houston (2-2) – Dobie, Deer Park

Rayburn (0-4) – Dobie, Deer Park, Pasadena

Pasadena (0-4) – Channelview, Rayburn

Week 9: Dobie, Deer Park and Pasadena Memorial win.

Tony’s Take: I think the four playoff teams will be Dobie, Deer Park, Pasadena Memorial and Channelview with the only thing to be determined being the order of finish between Pasadena Memorial and Channelview when they play Week 11.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Dobie, 2) Deer Park, 3) Pasadena Memorial, 4) Channelview

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 Dobie; D1-2 Deer Park; D2-1 Pasadena Memorial; D2-2 Channelview

Note: If Channelview beats Memorial Week 11 the D2 seedings would flip.

Shadow Creek (4-1) –Taylor, Strake Jesuit

Strake Jesuit (3-2) – Pearland, Shadow Creek

Alief Taylor (2-3) – Shadow Creek, Elsik

Alief Hastings (1-4) – Alvin, Pearland

Alvin (0-5) – Hastings, Dawson

Week 9: Shadow Creek bests Dawson in double overtime. Pearland, Jesuit and Elsik win.

Tony’s Take: This now looks like a 3-way tie for the district title. Dawson appears to have the point spread advantage.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Dawson, 2) Pearland, 3) Shadow Creek, 4) Alief Taylor

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 Pearland; D1-2 Alief Taylor; D2-1 Dawson; D2-2 Shadow Creek

Note: Alief Taylor has already beaten Jesuit and would hold the tie-breaker.

Tony’s projected seedings: D1-1 Dickinson; D1-2 Clear Springs; D2-1 Clear Falls, D2-2 Clear Creek

Baytown Lee (2-4) – Porter, Sterling

Crosby (1-5) – La Porte, Goose Creek Memorial

Baytown Sterling (0-6) – Goose Creek Memorial, Lee

Goose Creek Memorial (0-6) – Sterling, Crosby

Week 9: Port Arthur Memorial, Barbers Hill, Porter and La Porte were winners.

Tony’s take:The top three are all but set with the order to be determined. Port Arthur Memorial and Barbers Hill play this week. A PAM win sets the order as PAM, LA Porte, Barbers Hill. A BH win creates a three-way tie.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Port Arthur Memorial, 2) La Porte, 3) Barbers Hill, 4) Porter

Note: 4th is still up for grabs. A Porter win over Baytown Lee this week would all but clinch a playoff spot for the Spartans. A Porter loss leaves open the possibility of a 3-way tie for 4th. Lee must win out over Porter and Sterling to stay in the chase.

9-5AD1

Galveston Ball (6-0) –Northside, Wisdom

Houston Wisdom (5-1) –Sterling, Ball

Houston Sharpstown (0-6) – Waltrip, Northside

Week 9: Ball, Austin, Wisdom, Milby and Sterling were all winners.

Tony’s take: Wisdom got the “upset” win over Madison and stays in the playoff hunt. Right now, I see this as Ball, Sterling and a 3-way tie for 3rd between Wisdom, Madison and Waltrip.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Ball, 2) Sterling, 3) Madison, 4) Waltrip

Note: Waltip would have the advantage in the tiebreaker for third. Who has the advantage for fourth depends on the exact tiebreaker procedures.

Fort Bend Kempner (0-6) – Terry, Angleton

Week 9: Magnolia, Angleton, Fulshear and Magnolia West all win.

Tony’s take: Fulshear and Magnolia have clinched playoff spots. Fulshear would have to lose both remaining games to not win the district title and can finish no worse than 2nd. Magnolia already has wins over Angleton and Magnolia West and has clinched no worse than 2nd.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Fulshear, 2) Magnolia, 3) Angleton, 4) Magnolia West

Note: The winner of Magnolia West and Angleton this week clinches a playoff spot. Manvel and Friendswood are still mathematically alive.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Port Neches-Groves, 2) Texas City, 3) Fort Bend Marshall, 4) Nederland

Note:PNG has already clinched a playoff spot. Nederland and Texas City can clinch with either a win this week or a Daytona loss this week. Marshall clinches this week with a win and a Dayton loss.

Week 9: Lake Creek edges Huntsville. Brenham and Randle win big.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Lake Creek, 2) Randle, 3) Huntsville, 4) Brenham

Note: A Randle win over Rudder this week would set the four playoff teams as Lake Creek, Randle, Huntsville and Brenham. Lake Creek has already clinched a playoff spot. Huntsville, randle and Brenham all would clinch with either a win or a Rudder loss.

Note: This could wind up in a 3-way tie for 3rd between El Campo, Bay City and Navasota. All games between these teams have already been played and the differential is already established. El Campo would appear to have the advantage in a 3-way tie.

Week 9: Buna upsets Anahuac. East Chambers and Kirbyville win as expected.

Tony’s projected finish: 1) Kirbyville, 2) Orangefield, 3) East Chambers, 4) Buna
