After this week only one GHA district (12-3AD1) will not have started district play.

Here’s a quick overview of the 16 districts starting district play this week.

14-6A

Last year Eisenhower and Nimitz broke through and end the Spring ISD monopoly on the playoff spots in this district. Can the same happen again?

Teams to Watch: Westfield, DeKaney, Nimitz, Spring, Eisenhower, Davis

To me, Westfield is the prohibitive favorite in 14-6A. DeKaney and Nimitz look to be competing for 2nd and 3rd. The final playoff spot may boil down to Spring or Eisenhower with Davis having an outside shot.

15-6A

Tomball Memorial was impressed early with wins over Langham Creek, Cy Creek and Eisenhower with all wins coming by 33 points or more. Klein Cain, Klein Collins, Klein Oak, Klein and Tomball all won 2 of their 3 non-district games.

Teams to Watch: Tomball Memorial, Klein Cain, Klein Collins, Klein Oak, Klein, Tomball

This district is very hard for me to get a firm handle on. I have Klein Cain as the slightest of favorites to win the district but I could honestly see Tomball Memorial, Klein Collins or Klein Oak grabbing the title. And don’t count out Klein and Tomball competing for playoff spots.

17-6A

The only team in this district to have a winning non-district record was Cy Fair (2-1) with wins over Cy Park and Cy Woods to go with a one-point loss to Bridgeland.

Teams to Watch: Cy Fair, Stratford, Jersey Village, Memorial, Cy Creek

Cy Fair is my clear favorite to repeat as district champion. I think Stratford is the clear favorite for 2nd. Cy Fair and Stratford face off tonight. I expect the remaining playoff teams to come from three teams – Jersey Village, Memorial and Cy Creek.

18-6A

Lamar has impressed in non-district play with wins over West Brook, The Woodlands, Clear Falls and Pasadena Dobie.

Teams to Watch: Lamar, Heights, Westbury, Westside

This district seems pretty clear cut to me with Lamar the prohibitive favorite to win the district and Heights the prohibitive favorite to finish second. Westbury and Westside should finish third and fourth in some order. Lamar and Heights face off Friday night.

21-6A

North Shore, Atascocita, Summer Creek and C.E. King all went 3-0 in non-district play and collectively recorded wins over The Woodlands, Westfield, Katy, Dickinson, Klein Cain, Klein Collins, Allen and Pearland.

Teams to Watch: North Shore, Atascocita, Summer Creek, C.E. King

I think the playoff teams are clear and North Shore should be considered the favorite to win district once again. But the non-district schedules have demonstrated that any of these four teams can beat any other team on a given day.

22-6A

Deer Park went 4-0 in non-district play with wins over La Porte, Clear Creek, West Brook and Clear Brook.

Teams to Watch: Deer Park, Pasadena Memorial, Dobe, South Houston, Pasadena, Channelview

Deer Park is the clear favorite to win the district. To me Pasadena Memorial, Dobie and South Houston should finish 2nd, 3rd and 4th in some order. Pasadena and Channelview could possibly contend for a playoff spot.

23-6A

Shadow Creek impressed in non-district with wins over Manvel, Clear Springs and Bridgeland.

Teams to Wacth: Shadow Creek, Pearland, Dawson, Alief Taylor, Strake Jesuit, Hastsings, Elsik

Shadow Creek is the clear favorite to win the district. To me, Pearland and Dawson are clear favorites to finish 2nd and 3rd. I can honestly see any of Alief Taylor, Strake Jesuit, Hastings or Elsik grabbing the 4th spot.

24-6A

Dickinson dropped their season opener to Atascocita. They then beat Ridge Point, Dobie and Klein Oak.

Teams to Watch: Dickinson, Clear Springs, Clear Falls, Clear Lake, Clear Creek

I see Dickinson as the clear favorite in the district. 2nd and 3rd should be decided between Clear Springs and Clear Falls. The 4th playoff spot should go to either Clear Lake or Clear Creek.

9-5AD2

Fort Bend Marshall is once again in conversation to be at AT&T Stadium in December.

Teams to Watch: Fort Bend Marshall, Port Neches-Groves, Santa Fe, Dayton

To me this district is fairly clear cut and it will take and upset for the order of finish not to be Fort Bend Marshall, Port Neches-Groves, Santa Fe and Dayton

10-5AD2

Two of the new programs in the are (Lake Creek 6th season and Richmond Randle 3rd season) went 4-0 in non-district.

Teams to Watch: Lake Creek, Randle, Brenham, Huntsville

To me, Lake Creek is the clear favorite to win the district. I look for Randle and Brenham to compete for 2nd and 3rd. Huntsville is the clear favorite for 4th place.

11-4AD1

Scarborough, yes Scarborough, went 3-0 in non-district play. Still, I don’t see the Spartans competing for a playoff spot.

Teams to Watch: North Forest, Furr, Yates, Washington, Kashmere, Worthing

The district title should be decided between North Forest and Furr. Then I see four teams (Yates, Washington, Kashmere and Worthing) competing for the final two playoff spots.

12-4AD1

Iowa Colony and Needville both went 4-0 in non-district play. That’s eight wins between the two in just four games. For the entire season last year, the two teams combined by just six wins.

Teams to Watch: Iowa Colony, El Campo, Bay City, Stafford, Needville, Navasota

I see third-year program Iowa Colony competing with El Campo for this district title. After that I see four teams being in running for the final two playoff spots – Bay City, Stafford, Needville, Navasota

9-4AD2

Silsbee and Hamshire-Fannett both went 4-0 in non-district play.

Teams to Watch: Silsbee, Hamshire-Fannett, Jasper, West Orange-Stark

I see the four playoff teams as clear cut. The order of finish though could be very much up in the air. I would slightly favor Silsbee over Hamshire-Fannett for first and second. Jasper and West Orange-Stark I have rated in a dead-heat.

10-4AD2

Bellville was the only team in the district to go undefeated in non-district play with wins over La Grange, Stafford, Navasota and Cameron Yoe.

Teams to Watch: Bellville, Brookshire Royal, Sealy, La Marque, Sweeny

I see this as Bellville as the clear favorite for first, Royal and Sealy competing for second and third, LA Marque the favorite for fourth and Sweeny have a shot at the final playoff spot.

10-3AD1

Anahuac went 3-0 in non-district play with wins over Hardin-Jefferson, New Waverly and San Augustine. The season opener against Newton was cancelled due to wild fires).

Teams to Watch: Anahuac, East Chambers, Buna, Kirbyville, Orangefield

I see Anahuac as the clear favorite to win the district. Behind that I think East Chambers, Buna and Kirbyville as finishing second, third and fourth with Orangefield with a shot at grabbing a playoff spot.

14-3AD2

Wallis Brazos (4-0) and Tidehaven (3-1) went undefeated in non-district play.

Teams to Watch: Tidehaven, East Bernard, Boling, Rice Consolidated, Brazos

I see Tidehaven as the clear favorite to win the district. East Bernard is a clear favorite for a playoff spot but could finish anywhere from second to fourth. I then see Boling, Rice Consolidated and Brazos competing for the final two spots.
