Texarkana defense rises to the occasion to knock off state-ranked Frisco Lone Star, 48-40

TEXARKANA- Davian Groce had a combined 304 yards of total offense, including two touchdowns but Frisco Lone Star was unable to overcome six turnovers as Texarkana (Texas High) held on for a 48-40 upset win at Tiger Stadium at Grim Park.

Texarkana (Texas) High got off to a fast start as defensive back Trystan Powell returned an interception for a 39-yard touchdown to thwart Frisco Lone Star’s first possession of the season.

Texas High added another score to take a 13-0 lead on a 40-yard pass from David Potter to Knox Pilgren, but Lone Star answered quickly when Collin Blackstock hit Winston Pollard on a 72-yard scoring strike to cut the deficit to 13-7.

Lone Star added another score on an 82-yard touchdown run by Groce, but Texas High scored on consecutive drives to take a 34-14 lead in a back-and-forth first half.

Frisco Lone Star blocked a punt and returned it to the one yard-line which led to a one-yard score by Karece Hoyt to trim the deficit to 34-24.

Lone Star had a golden chance to cut the lead to 3 before halftime but Blackstock got rocked by a hit and Duncan McGhee pounced on the loose ball and returned it 65-yards for the score to give Texas High a 41-24 lead.

The offenses finally cooled down a bit in the second half and Lone Star was able to cut the Texas High lead to 41-34 late in the 3rd quarter on a 39-yard field goal by Chase Lanham.

Lone Star had a chance to tie the game early in the fourth quarter but Texarkana’s ball-hawking defense intercepted Blackstock for a 3rd time to end the drive at the two yard-line.
