(COLLEGE STATION) – The J.J. Pearce Mustangs played in the Texas 7on7 State Champion Tournament Friday and Saturday at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station.This was the Mustangs sixth appearance in the tournament and their fourth appearance in the last five tournaments.The Mustangs started play in Pool P Friday afternoon with close 19-25 loss to the Woodlands. In their second pool play game they beat Lubbock Coronado 35-20. The Mustangs wrapped up pool play with another close loss this time to Drippings Springs 20-25.With those results, the Mustangs finished 3rd in Pool D and advanced to the Consolation Bracket on Saturday morning.In the first round of consolation play, the Mustangs pulled out a thrilling win over the Everman Bulldogs 20-19.The Mustangs lost to eventual Consolation Bracket runner up Shadow Creek 21-39 in the second round.The Mustangs open the 2023 regular season Friday, August 25 at home versus Wylie.Please enjoy these photos from the tournament by Antony Blalock (@antmanfootball).
